• Beauty Exclusive: Brandy Gomez-Duplessis – Celebrity Makeup Artist

I am starting a new series where I interview celebrity makeup artists and other beauty industry insiders in order to learn about how they got their start, the obstacles they faced and what their plans are for the future. The first person in my new series is Brandy Gomez-Duplessis, a celebrity makeup artist with an A-list clientele and an inspiring story. What is your first beauty memory?

Brandy Gomez-Duplessis: My first beauty memory was watching television of old Hollywood actresses. Back in the days women were very polished, elegant, and well groomed. Women’s hair was always styled, dressed like an in-store mannequin, and dripped in lots of jewelry. To me that was beau-tee-ful (laughing).

CCB: How did you get your start in makeup?

BGD: My start was like many makeup artists in the industry. I started behind a makeup counter. I worked part time at an Estee Lauder makeup counter in New York and opened the first MAC Cosmetics counter in New Orleans at Saks Fifth Ave. From there, I started freelancing.

  • I’m Currently Obsessed With…Smashbox Cream Liner Palette

Smashbox, Cream Eyeliner Palette in Proof, $32,

In the past, the idea of using cream eyeliner was a daunting one. I was one of those cream eyeliner challenged girls who couldn’t figure out to how craft a cat-eye if she wanted to and I desperately wanted to. Well, fast forward a few years later and I can wield cream liner like no one’s business. I can even craft a cat-eye without looking like a clown. One of the reasons I’ve graduated from cream liner amateur to expert is Smashbox’s cream liners. I absolutely adore these liners as they are super super super easy to use and don’t smudge, budge or run. Another reason I am smitten is the applicator brush. Unlike the traditional angled brushes used for lining the eye, the Smashbox liner brush is unique in its straight design. The thin bristles of the brush get into the lashline with ease giving you that smoldering look with just a few quick strokes.

With all of this backstory, you can totally understand why my newest obsession is the Smashbox Cream Liner Palette. This palette includes ten shades:

    •  Lava
    •  Picasso
    •  Midnight Purple
    •  Midnight Brown
    •  Putty
    •  Caviar
    •  Thunder
    •  Midnight Green
    •  Deep Bronze
    •  Cameo

  • Product Review: Smashbox Softbox Eye Shadow Palette

Smashbox is one of my favorite brands. From the amazing eye shadows to the primers that keep your foundation and eye makeup looking flawless for hours, I love just about everything that Smashbox creates. The makeup company also holds a special place in my heart because I used to be the counter manager for Smashbox at Bloomingdale’s in Miami when I was a graduate student. I worked my way through grad school selling their incredible products and demonstrating how effective they were. Fast forward to today, I can’t tell you how excited I was to receive their latest palette which is perfect for spring and summer!

  • I’m Currently Obsessed With…Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer

Just like the perfect undergarments can change the way an outfit looks, so does the right makeup primer. Many of us don’t realize how important a great primer is when it comes to getting the most out of our makeup. Oftentimes we quickly swipe on some eye shadow, eye liner and mascara while behind the wheel of our cars during morning rush hour and then get upset when our makeup fades away before lunch time. The key to long-lasting, smudge-proof eye makeup is a primer. There are many brands out there that produce primers but one of my personal faves has to be Smashbox’s Photo Finish Lid Primer. It is a must-have for any beauty fan who wants their eye makeup to look amazing! Primers do more than just make your makeup last longer, they also even out the skintone and prevent creasing as well as help to make whatever shade of eyeshadow pop. I am a huge advocate for primers and highly suggest you invest in the Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer!

  • Product Review: Smashbox Limitless Lip Gloss in Timeless

With Metro Atlanta being covered in a sheet of ice and snow, my thoughts are on the warm, sunny days of Spring that seem a million miles away. One of the products I recently received is the perfect way to add a little bit of spring to my look during the harsh winter months. Smashbox Limitless Lip Gloss in Timeless is a gorgeous gloss that imparts just the right amount of shine and shimmer without looking garish or girly. I love the fact that I can wear alone or over my favorite lipstick. Over the weekend, I swathed the shimmery light peach gloss over bare lips lightly outlined with Cork lip pencil by MAC. It was a winner and a look I can wear whenever I want to go neutral on the lips.
