  • Product Review: Purity of Elements Skincare

One of the most important aspects of spring beauty is fresh, healthy skin. I tend to ramp up my skincare efforts in the spring as I find myself spending more time outdoors which equals more exposure to the elements including the sun, rain and humidity. As a ritual, I love to switch up my wintery cream-based cleansers and heavy duty moisturizers in favor of lighter spring-ready skin care that still pack a powerful punch in the nurturing and protecting department. My new favorite skin care system consists of three skincare products from Purity of Elements, a natural skin care line founded by a mother and daughter duo. What makes Purity of Elements so unique is that unlike other natural or organic lines, this skin care line fuses natural ingredients, essences and antioxidants with scientific elements.

I started my journey towards spring ready skin with the Daily Purifying Polish, $32. This gentle facial scrub has an antioxidant rich formula with Jojoba oil, Mandarin Orange Extract, Soybean Germ Extract and Antioxidant Tea and Berry Blend. The scrub is very lightweight and smells very crisp and clean. I used a pea-sized amount for my face and neck and was very pleased with the consistency. It wasn’t too abrasive or harsh on the skin but at the same time I liked the way it removed any dry, chapped or flaky skin especially around my T-zone area. Continue Reading

  • Spring is Here!

Today marks the official first day of spring. Break out your sundresses, wedges, bright lip color and pastel nail polishes, spring is here! I love this season as it is the perfect blend of sunny days and breezy afternoons. The weather is not too hot or too cold and festival season kicks off around the country as people come out of hibernation after a long harsh winter. In order to “spring” into the season with confidence, I have compiled a list of must-have products that will surely help you navigate spring without losing a step.

    • Bright Lip Color – Spring is the time when color bursts at the seams. From flowers blossoming to fruit trees bursting with life, color engulfs our world in the spring as all living things come alive during this bountiful season. One way to instantly liven up your look is with a captivating bright lip color. You can certainly opt for one of last spring’s vivid hues in your beauty collection however if you want to pump things up a notch – opt for a neon bright version in a semi-matte finish. I love NARS Cosmetics Lip Color in Schiap – Semi-Matte – Shocking Pink, $26, NarsCosmetics.com

  • Sleeping Beauty: 8 Beauty Tricks To Roadtest While You Snooze

Don’t you think beauty should be effortless? So effortless that you could become more gorgeous in your sleep? Turns out you can.

Not only does getting some shut-eye make you appear prettier (it’s called ‘beauty sleep’ for a reason), but it affords an opportunity to begin your beauty routine earlier; meaning less time spent primping and preening in the morning, and yes, longer lie-ins. Here are some fantastic overnight tricks that mean you can wake up feeling and looking more attractive.

    Soft Hands And Feet

Are your brittle hands and feet a constant source of shame? Go biblical by soaking your hands and feet in a bowl of water – add some Epsom salts, if you have any. It should only take five minutes, and then you can whip out your exfoliating gloves to start removing dead skin cells.

Next, apply heavy duty moisturizer to both your hands and feet, place cotton gloves and socks on top, and then peel off in the morning. We promise, your extremities will never have felt so soft!

    Shiny Locks

Would you love to wake up every morning with glossy, touchable hair? Use a sleep-in hair mask to nourish and condition while you’re dreaming of silky strands. All you have to do is rinse out the product and blow-dry in the morning. You’ll wonder why you never did this before!

    Satin Sheets

There’s something exceptionally decadent about satin bed linen, but this skin-stroking material actually ups your beauty echelon. Not only does it stop damaging friction attacking your hair at night, but it’ll prevent the nasty build-up of oils on your face that lead to breakouts and blemishes.

    Volume For Fine Hair

Fine-haired girls, we feel your pain. Every day it seems like we have the same boring hair and any attempts to change-up our style fall limp by lunchtime. Prevent this from happening by adding volumizing mousse to your tresses before bed and sleeping in hot rollers. Soft foam additions prevent an uncomfortable night, and you only need to curl some important sections.

Note: position curlers so they’re not digging into your scalp – what’s the point in glorious, thick hair if you look like you haven’t slept a wink.

In the A.M., shakeout any large curls with your fingers and coat with hairspray. Flip your head and spritz under your roots too, for lasting volume.

    Mermaid Hair

Look at any runway this season and you’ll see that romantic mermaid hair is having a moment. However, that doesn’t mean that you should rush out and buy a set of crimping irons (more heat for your poor tresses). Instead, sleep on it.

Before you turn off the lights, apply a little cream or gel to just-wet hair and braid in little plaits – the smaller they are, the more intense the crimp (you probably want a happy medium). In the morning, all you have to do is loosen the braids and you’re good to go.

  • True Beauty: Product Review: Kimberly Snyder’s “The Beauty Detox Solution”

Here is my first True Beauty post as promised. One of the ways to achieve True Beauty is by incorporating a healthier approach to food. About 95% of people list losing weight as their number one goal for the New Year. A good 90% of us start off on the right track and within a few weeks to a month we have already gone back to our previous eating habits which means we will be listing weight loss as our number one goal for the new year to come.

In order to end this vicious cycle, I decided to do some research on a lifestyle change that would truly facilitate a healthier, happier and more beautiful me. Enter Kimberly Snyder’s “The Beauty Detox Solution”. This is not your typical diet book. Kimberly is a certified nutritionist with celebrity and regular clients who have greatly benefited from her unique approach to weight loss and achieving optimal health.

“The Beauty Detox Solution” forces you to change your thoughts on everything from the types of food that you eat to how you pair your food and even what order that you consume your food. One of the biggest changes that I am going to have to make is ridding my diet of dairy. Although I don’t drink milk at all, I love cheese and frozen yogurt. It will definitely be an adjustment for me going forward but I am willing to make the change as I have gained an understanding that dairy is not beneficial to our bodies or health in any way possible. • It’s a New Day

Welcome to 2013! I hope each and every one of you had a wonderful, safe and happy holiday season. The New Year brings so many things to forefront. We say goodbye to the previous year with all of its up and downs. We reflect on the various achievements and disappointments that occurred throughout the previous year while focusing on new goals for the new year. No matter what your goals are, the important thing to remember is that it doesn’t take a new year to achieve them.

One of my biggest goals is the gift of true beauty. I am at a place in my life where true beauty is the greatest gift I can give myself as it elevates every aspect of my life from health to love to career and family. True beauty goes beyond the latest makeup and hair trends. It is about achieving a strong sense of self and confidence while displaying the most beautiful body, mind and spirit possible.  Being a beauty editor, I spend a lot of time dissecting the hottest new products, trends and styles for the season but true beauty is timeless and looks amazing on every single person no matter what they look like or their personal taste/preferences.

In order to achieve true beauty I have to make several major changes from diet to exercise to spirituality to my beauty regimen. This is a total body, mind and soul makeover which means that I will have to step out of my comfort zone in most areas of my life and embrace the power of change. It’s not going to be easy and it definitely will be quite challenging at times but this goal is so important to me that I am willing to take this journey and to struggle through the tough times just to reach my end goal.

As I take this new path towards true beauty, I will be blogging about my efforts and will be showcasing some of the different routes and methods that are working and not working. Whenever you see a post with the title True Beauty – you will know that I am delving into my personal experiences towards true beauty.

I welcome each and every one of you to join me on this journey. May my struggles, obstacles, triumphs and accomplishments help to inspire, motivate, educate, inform and uplift the individuals who follow this blog!

    Have a happy New Year!!!
