  • Beauty News: Tara Smith – UK Celebrity Stylist Launches Vegan Hair Line

Vegan hair care? What is vegan hair care you ask? Well, to start things off, it’s probably best I clarify what vegan means first and foremost. Vegan is when you do not consume or use any animal by-products of any kind. Vegans are people who do not consume meat, fish, poultry or dairy as they all consist of animal by-products. They also don’t wear leather, suede or fur as these too are animal by-products. Many strict vegans won’t use traditional beauty products such as perfume or skin care as many of these products include animal by-products and have been tested on animals. Tara Smith, a well-known celebrity stylist in the UK recently launched a vegan hair care line that would be safe enough for a strict vegan’s standards but would also produce quality results.

With ingredients such as; soy protein, panthenol and aloe vera, these botanically-enriched hair care products infuse hair with much-needed nutrients and minerals giving hair a dose of vitality and strength. The line includes four different collections made specifically for different hair types and three styling aids.

Check out Tara Smith for more information on where to purchase.

  • Product Review: Ouidad Curl Quencher Hydrafusion Intense Cream

    Ouidad, Curl Quencher, $26,

As I continue to embrace my ever-evolving curly/wavy hair, I have come to the realization that the foundation to sensational hair revolves around quality hair care products including styling aids. You can wash and condition your hair with the most botanically enriched products ever created but if you choose to style your hair with subpar styling agents, you can rest assured that your hair won’t look or feel its best. That’s where Ouidad’s Curl Quencher Hydrafusion Intense Cream comes into play. I recently received a sample of this amazing curly girl favorite styling product to test out. The first thing I did was read the ingredients listing and with botanicals such as; milk thistle and sweet almond extract, I knew this curl-enhancing cream would soften and smooth my curls rather than dry them out.

I used this product on slightly dampened hair and was immediately impressed with the definition and shine that it gave my curls and waves. I like this product a lot as it doesn’t leave my hair feeling crunchy or hard but it still holds the curls and waves in place. Touchable soft curls are something every curly girl wants and with Curl Quencher, you can finally achieve the curls of your dreams.

  • Product Review: Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy Ultra Shea Shampoo and Conditioner

Have you seen the new commercials with Heidi Klum regarding a revolutionary new hair care line? It’s called Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy Ultra Shea Collection and its all about cleansing and treating the scalp. A healthy scalp is the foundation for strong, healthy hair. Many times the problems we have with our hair stem from an undernourished scalp. Dryness, hair breakage, thinning, these are just a few of the common issues many of us encounter on a regular basis. Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy Ultra Shea Shampoo and Conditioner is the perfect system for curly girls as our hair and scalps tend to be dryness. The Ultra Shea collection combines several moisturizing ingredients including shea butter, soybean oil, sweet almond oil, palm oil and sunflower oil.

I had the pleasure of using the products recently and was very happy with the results. The shampoo is highly emollient while cleansing the hair of dirt, oil and product build-up. I loved the fact that my hair felt nice and clean without feeling stripped of all of my natural oils. I immediately followed with the moisture-rich conditioner. I left the conditioner on for up to five minutes while finishing the rest of my shower. As soon as I rinsed the conditioner out of my hair, I instantly felt the difference. My hair was shiny, soft and easy to manage. I love this collection and definitely recommend using these products as we transition from summer to fall.

  • Beauty News: Beverly Johnson to Launch Luxury Beauty Collection with Frederick’s of Hollywood

I have a secret to confess. I love Frederick’s of Hollywood!!!! Okay, so for those of you who don’t know about this store, it’s Victoria’s Secret’s naughty older sister. It’s a great place to find sexy little bustiers, teddies, peek-a-boo nighties and that fun wedding night bridal set for his eyes only. Well, it looks like Frederick’s is taking a cue from it’s refined little sister and has recently collaborated with the first African American supermodel and entrepreneur Beverly Johnson on a luxury beauty collection. The new line hits stores on August 1st and will be available online around Labor Day weekend.

The line consists of The Model Logic hair care which is a fully comprehensive hair care line for all textures and hair types. Next is Beautiful Body by Beverly which is a line of bath and body products that soften and smooth the skin. Last but not least is the skincare line – Flawless Skin which will feature several anti-aging products complete with botanical and antioxidant rich ingredients.

This collaboration has been a dream of Beverly’s for a long time. As a longtime fan and customer, Beverly jumped at the chance to create a special beauty line for the lingerie retailer.

“Frederick’s of Hollywood is an institution. Like most women, I as a young woman was first introduced to lingerie with Frederick’s of Hollywood.…The reason I have a strong alliance is because of what they offer the curvaceous woman. They are my women.…To me, the collaboration is a natural,” said Johnson.

Congratulations on the new venture Beverly! Can’t wait to check out the new products and get some fun new lingerie too!

  • Summer Beauty: Curly Hair Care 101

With the summer season in full swing, there is nothing but trips to the beach, pool and the park ahead. We’re talking outdoor activities that could wind up being a catastrophe for your curlie cues. From exposure to UVA and UVB rays, environmental pollutants, salt water, sand, product build-up and much more, our curls go through a lot during the summer and it’s easy to end the season with dry, brittle, damaged locks that are anything but sexy. Here are some easy steps that will keep your curls healthy, happy and protected all summer long!

    • Invest in a quality clarifying shampoo. Clarifying shampoos are typically not a product I recommend for curly hair cuties as our hair is naturally dry and clarifying shampoos tend to leave our curls parched and in need of moisture. The only reason I am recommending a clarifying shampoo is because we tend to use more styling products such as; mousse, pomade, gel, serum, hair spray, during the summer months. These products are great for maintaining defined curls and keeping our tresses looking their best but they are not great when it comes to maintaining the health of our scalp and hair follicles. Clarifying shampoos remove hair of all product build-up leaving hair clean, refreshed and ready for conditioner. I recommend using a clarifying shampoo only once a week so that you are not stripping your hair of its natural oils. A great option is Ouidad’s Water Works Clarifying Shampoo
    • No matter where your outdoor summer plans take you, it’s best to rock a great leave-in conditioner so that your curls are constantly protected from sun up to sundown. A leave-in conditioner is a wonderful alternative to styling aids as it helps to moisturize the hair while holding curls in place and keeping hair nourished, shiny and healthy-looking. Look for leave-in conditioners with sun protection. The scalp is highly sensitive to sunlight and can burn easily leading to hair loss and thinning. Check out Fekkai Marine Summer Hair Beachcomber Leave-In Conditioner.
    • Put a hat on it!!! Nothing protects your curls better than a sexy summer hat. From the sophisticated wide-brim beach styles to kicky cowboy hats, covering the hair with a hat not only protects your strands and scalp from the sun’s harsh rays but it also adds a fun flair to any beach look!
    • Let your curls air dry rather than using a diffuser or towel-drying. The less stress you put on your hair, the better. When you get back from the beach or the pool, just rinse your hair with lukewarm water and then apply your favorite conditioner. Let conditioner soak into the hair while finishing up your shower. Rinse out. Apply a lightweight serum or gel to the hair after combing out any tangles. Let hair air dry and gently style before heading out for a night on the town. Trust me, your curls will thank you for the gentle treatment.
