I’m Currently Obsessed With…The Fragrance Shop Special Blend 4-Pack

April 5th, 2013

I recently received my Fragrance Shop Sampler which consists of four 1/8th ounce bottles of special blend fragrances created by the Fragrance Shop staff. I picked four gorgeous and delicious fragrances that will work perfectly throughout the spring and summer season. Here are the four special blends that I chose for my sample pack.

Fragrance #1: Pink Sugar

This delicious fragrance is reminiscent of the perfume Pink Sugar by Aquolina. It’s sweet, fresh and fun. With notes of Bergamot, Sicilian Orange, Raspberry, Fig, Lilly of the Valley, Anise, Strawberry, Cotton Candy, Vanilla, Caramel, Musk and Wood. Men love this one!

Fragrance #2: Sweet Kisses

This scintillating scent is as light and sweet as freshly spun cotton candy. With notes of Cherry, Sugared Almonds and Cotton Candy, this is a wonderful spring fragrance.

Fragrance #3: White Butter

If you love the aroma of freshly baked cupcakes, you will absolutely fall in love with this fragrance. Notes of Vanilla Buttercream Frosting, a Hint of Lemon and Pineapple come together to create a truly luscious fragrance that transition well from day to night.

Fragrance #4: Lime Verbena

I cannot get enough of this fresh, bright and effervescent scent. Notes of Lime, Verbena and Sweet Coconut make this an ideal fragrance for summer. It reminds me of drinking a delicious mojito while lounging pool side in Miami.

Spring is Here!

March 20th, 2013

Today marks the official first day of spring. Break out your sundresses, wedges, bright lip color and pastel nail polishes, spring is here! I love this season as it is the perfect blend of sunny days and breezy afternoons. The weather is not too hot or too cold and festival season kicks off around the country as people come out of hibernation after a long harsh winter. In order to “spring” into the season with confidence, I have compiled a list of must-have products that will surely help you navigate spring without losing a step.

  • Bright Lip Color – Spring is the time when color bursts at the seams. From flowers blossoming to fruit trees bursting with life, color engulfs our world in the spring as all living things come alive during this bountiful season. One way to instantly liven up your look is with a captivating bright lip color. You can certainly opt for one of last spring’s vivid hues in your beauty collection however if you want to pump things up a notch – opt for a neon bright version in a semi-matte finish. I love NARS Cosmetics Lip Color in Schiap – Semi-Matte – Shocking Pink, $26,

  • Body Polish/Scrub – Removing the layers of dry, chapped and rough skin is a major requirement the instant the temperatures begin to rise. The best way to rid yourself of that top layer of flaky, patchy skin is with a great body scrub. You want to use your scrub on arms, shoulders, chest, torso, legs and feet at least three times a week to see the results that you crave. One of my new must-have body scrubs is S.O.A.P. Pink Grapefruit Sugar Scrub, $25, This ultra-delectable body scrub is filled to the brim with Pink Grapefruit essential oil, Eucalyptus essential oil, granulated sugar, confectionary sugar, Coconut oil, Jojoba and Olive oils and Aloe Vera. Watch your winter weary skin melt away with just one application of this delicious bath and body treat.

  • Springtastic Fragrance – As you lighten and brighten your look, it’s certainly time to elevate your fragrance to accommodate the easy breezy spring climate. Whether you go ga-ga over a nice lightweight crisp floral or you prefer or luscious sweet fruit-inspired aroma, look no further than The Fragrance Shop, prices vary, The Known for their high quality oils – this one-stop-shop has every scent you could ever want or desire. The way The Fragrance Shop works is this: you can purchase one of their designer oils which smells exactly like its perfume counterpart. They have just about every fragrance imaginable from Chanel No 5 to Viva La Juicy. These oils are so incredible because a little bit goes a long way. Along with designer fragrances, there are also house blends which are truly scintillating scents created by the Fragrance Shop staffers and are cult-classics. I love the Sweet Kisses scent and Lime Verbena! If that wasn’t enough, you can also create your own custom fragrance by blending several single scents together. They will create small sample vials for you to test before you purchase which is super awesome!

  • Pastel Nail Polish – Even though bright nail shades are still a hit this year, one of the biggest trends for spring is all about the pastel hues. Think Easter but ramped up 1000% and with a fashion forward slant. I love these gorgeous new pastel shades for tips and toes as they are anything but demure. They lend a feminine yet romantic look that works beautifully through spring and well into summer. I cannot live without China Glaze’s Avant Garden Spring 2013 Collection, $7.50 each, This 12-piece collection comes with its fair share of vibrant shades but it’s the pastels that are picture perfect and will be on heavy rotation until fall makes it first appearance.

Cruelty-Free Cosmetics 101

March 11th, 2013

I love animals. I have been an animal lover as far back as I can remember. Growing up in sunny Southern California, my house was always filled with the sounds of laughter and fun and animals. We had dogs and cats who were more than pets, they were considered family members. My mother and father raised my brother and I to be respectful of all animal life and to acknowledge that animals had feelings just like humans do. Growing up, I wanted to be a veterinarian until I found out that there was surgery and scalpels and blood involved. Being that I am quite squeamish, I soon realized that a career in animal medicine wasn’t a wise decision but my love for the animal kingdom never changed.

In the past few years, I have become more aware of the issues of animal testing and animal cruelty. As I have begun to move away from eating meat and am slowly transitioning into a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle, I am beginning to look into all of the areas where I may or may not be impacting the animal kingdom in a negative way. One way I do have a lot of control over is my beauty regimen and the products I choose to use for my daily routine. In order to help further the cause of eliminating animal testing all together, I am no longer purchasing items or brands that test their products on animals.

Fortunately,  there are countless cosmetic and beauty brands that do not test on animals. These companies have made a concerted effort to lessen the already overwhelming amount of cruel testing on innocent animals who live their entire lives within the confines of laboratories.

Here are a few incredible brands that I highly recommend checking out as they are cruelty-free which is truly a beautiful thing!
