As the world of modeling continues to diversify, newcomers like Charlene Almarvez have the opportunity to make their mark on a notoriously polarized industry. Models of color have come a long way but truly have a long way to go. Charlene Almarvez is one of the few Filipinas that is working the runways and high fashion ad campaigns. The 17 year-old began her modeling career in the Phillipines where she was born and raised back in 2009. The stunning six-footer recently discussed how she got her start in modeling:
“I was discovered by a director of Philippine Fashion Week during the parade in our town festival. He asked me if I wanted to be a model and encouraged me and my parents.”
The following year, she entered the Ford Supermodel of the World contest and was first runner up. Soon thereafter, she was booked by Ford Models and her career took off like a rocket. She walked the runways for Rachel Comey, Cynthia Staffe, Lacoste, Peter Som, Diane Von Furstenburg and Sophie Thallet. Take a peek at some of her gorgeous photos!
