Style File: Queen Latifah Preps Her First Clothing Line for HSN

Queen Latifah Steps On the HSN Train with Her New Clothing Line "Queen"

Latifah has been on a roll ever since her days on the hit show “Living Single”. She’s a Grammy-nominated singer, a major Hollywood actress and a celebrated rapper with a career most people would die for. Not only has she excelled in the entertainment world, she has also been one of the most successful spokeswomen for CoverGirl in the history of the brand. She even has her own CoverGirl collection aptly titled the Queen Collection which offers up a wide range of beautiful shades and textures for skin of color. Latifah is taking her fame and creativity and pouring it into a clothing line that is set to debut on HSN (Home Shopping Network) on August 7th. Her collection will include clothing, accessories and even faux hair but none of the items will ever say plus size or have any connotation of being for full-figured women. According to a recent interview with WWD, Latifah wants to move away from the stigma that plus-sized brings:

It is a word we need to bury at this point … I wanted to make something size two and up,” she said. “The truth is, we all would like to wear the same clothes. We all want to wear beautiful, fly clothes no matter what size you are, and so for me it was important to match with a company that understood and respected that ideal.”

It’s one of the reasons she hadn’t tried her hand at designing clothes before. “I felt like larger girls were not respected, even though we are huge consumers,” Queen Latifah said. “I felt the marketplace didn’t respect us in the way it should. I was not going to step out with a clothing line that didn’t respect a fuller-figured woman or a curvaceous woman, and really all women.”

Just like the rest of Latifah’s ventures, I have nothing but confidence that she will succeed once again with her new clothing and accessories line. All hail the Queen!
